...the Melange Team has a weekly challenge...last week the prompt was INSPIRATION and this week the prompt was DANCE. I actually combined both words for one piece....now this is not a new piece of art but the story behind it has made me the artist i am today....10 years ago i was a mom to a 4 year old girl and a 5 year old boy ...i was teaching art 3 days a week...had no time for myself let alone my art....randomly i signed up for an encaustic painting class at the local museum, the class ran 3 or 4 days all day...i had not painted in YEARS! but i was starting to realize in my case a happy mom is a painting mom...after the four days of the class not only was my car filled to the roof with art but through this encaustic class i realized you could paint...layer...collage... and literally stick things in the painting/wax....you could also scratch words into the medium...(the words here were lyrics from a song my daughter sang)....that is literally the exact moment i became a mixed media artist!...what freedom! this piece was inspired 10 years ago by my daughter as a 4 year old ballerina! Flash ahead to the MAy/June Issue of Cloth Paper Scissors where my Playful PAintings feature is about my current day series of paintings with my daughter as a young dancer....so often with my art in one way or another it is all connected....so this is my challenge piece combining the words INSPIRATION and DANCE.

Sue ... the ballerina made me smile ... And I too was doing " mixed media blah blah blah " way before I knew that had a name for it !
Janet
wonderful artwork, wonderful story, wonderful little song....and aren't we all glad that you discovered mixed media :)
She definitely brought a smile to my face today. And I loved reading the blog post also. I am so happy that you did the Melange challenge and we are so glad to have you on the team..
Such a happy piece!
Harley Jane is your muse! Who could be better?!!! Love the piece
Very nice Sue. The feeling of this piece is surely dance happy!
Sue - This is awesome! I really love it - I have a soft spot in my heart for dance (6 years of lessons as a child!).
No worries about the Explore sign, keep it!!! Really. It was just sort of startling to see my exact letter combination somewhere else! (I knew it was from me because I had an issue with my sidebar and always had to put a little extra black on the right hand side!) If you look on my blog under "timewasters" you will get a link to the program that finds the letters - it's really cool and addicting. I always end up spending a couple hours looking at cool letters.
Oh, btw - I'm with you! "A happy mom is a painting mom."
Thanks for the comments Sue, that means a lot coming from someone like you!
Did you see my blog contest for a free set of birds? All you have to do to enter is leave a tip or technique for painting or mixed media, nothing spectacular is required, it ends on Monday. If your interested, stop on by. doorno2.blogspot.com
